Labor Day weekend events “Under The Sails” at Hickory Square this weekend will have a great kick off for the return of the Friday night Music under the Sails Series in September. There are different types of performances coming to downtown. They are adding Improv Comedy, drum circles, as well as praise and worship music performances by three local churches.
Friday, August 29, 2014, Hickory Arts kicks off the weekend with Improv at 6 p.m. with ‘Now Are the Foxes.’ This event is improvisational comedy that is made up of fresh, original scenes, based on audience input.
Saturday, August 30, 2014 the Hickory Music Factory is bringing their monthly drum circles for anyone that would like to join in at 4 p.m.
To wrap up the weekend, Sunday, August 31, 2014 Hickory Arts is bringing three church groups, Sandy Ridge Baptist in Hickory, Day 3 Church in Granite Falls, and Renaissance Bible Church in Concord, to perform at 5 p.m.
The community is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs to these events and enjoy some of the food and beverages from the local establishments, while relaxing with this free entertainment at The Sails on the Square.
These events wouldn’t be possible without help from the Western Piedmont Symphony, Hickory Arts, Hickory Music Factory, and Bob Sinclair. In addition, funding partners, include the Convention and Visitors Bureau and Frye Regional Medical Center, and organizations that are vital to The Sails on the Square’s success, like the Downtown Hickory Farmers Market, Olde Hickory Brewery, Hickory Downtown Development Association, and the Hickory Jaycees.
