Komen NC Foothills Race For The Cure

The 2014 Komen NC Foothills Race for the Cure will be on October 18, 2014 at Lenoir Rhyne University, Hickory, NC.

The fee is $20 for adults and $10 for children aged 6-12.  By registering on-line, adult participants can save $5 and have the opportunity to receive one year subscription to Self Magazine.  Click here to register on-line.

The Paper registration fee is $25 and can be downloaded.  From our registration webpage, you can sign up as an individual, form a team, or join one.

If you can’t make the Race or prefer to sleep in that morning, consider signing up as a Sleep In participant.  The registration is $25, but you will be mailed your T-shirt after the Race.

The 5K begins at 9:00 a.m. and the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk begins at 8:10 a.m. To learn more about forming a team, visit their Team Page.

Due to the size of our event, the City of Hickory requested that they change the routes for the One Mile Fun Run/Walk and Noncompetitive (untimed) participants.  The Competitive 5K route has not changed.  To see the maps for all three events, go to our Event Site Map  page for maps of all three routes.

Up to 75 percent of the funds raised at the Race remain here in the NC Foothills Affiliate area (Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties) to provide breast health research, diagnostics, screening, treatment, services and education for uninsured or underinsured women.  The remaining 25 percent goes to fund national research to discover the causes of breast cancer and, ultimately, its cures.

Every step counts! Your donation provides women and men in NC Foothills with services that have literally saved lives. You help make the following programs possible:

• Free mammograms and diagnostics
• Education about the warning signs of breast cancer, methods of early detection and the latest treatment options
• Publishing the “Little Pink Ribbon Book” – a resource guide of local resources for breast cancer patients and survivors
• Assist local support services
• Cutting edge research to find a cure for breast cancer

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Since its inception in 1983, the Komen Race for the Cure series has grown from one local Race with 800 participants to a global series of more than 120 Races with more than 1 million people expected to participate in 2014.

The Komen Race for the Cure is a unique event, designed and implemented to promote positive awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer.  It has proved to be an enormously effective way to reach many women and men with the message that breast cancer is not necessarily fatal if mammography and breast self-exam become routine. As well as being a road race for runners, the Komen Race for the Cure is an emotionally charged event that attracts many first timers and recreational runners. The Komen Race for the Cure is an opportunity for thousands of women, men and their families, running or walking, to spread the breast cancer message within their communities.
