The Soldiers Reunion Parade, is always held at 5 p.m. on the third Thursday every August and will be held this year on August 20, 2015.
Soldiers Reunion is actually a week-long event, beginning on Sunday with the Cruisin’ & Car Show. The celebration continues with the Gospel Music Night on Monday at 7:30 p.m., Beach Music Night on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., Street Dance on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., and Reunion Day on Thursday. On that day, vendors line the 1924 Courthouse Square and patriotic services are held at 10 a.m. and at 4 p.m. Then comes the annual parade through the downtown area.
But the fun doesn’t end there. The Newton Parks & Recreation Department sponsors the Soldiers Reunion 5K/One-Mile Fun Run on Saturday at 8 a.m., the Soldiers Reunion 30-60-100-Mile Century Bike Ride on Sunday at 8 a.m., and much more.
Soldiers Reunion offers something for everyone from beginning to end.
Businesses and groups are charged $380 to enter a float in the parade. Local businesses that decorate a vehicle to advertise their company will be charged $50. Any church, school or other nonprofit organization may participate in the parade at no cost.
