Western Piedmont Symphony will be presenting John Cheek on Saturday, April 16th, 2016 at 7:30 pm in their Side by Side Masterworks V concert at P.E. Monroe Auditorium at Lenoir Rhyne University.
About John Cheek:
John Cheek was appointed at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Fall 1998 after teaching at Bronxville College in New York. A native of Little Rock, he made his professional debut with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra at age 13 and was guest soloist on more than a dozen occasions. John Cheek is a pianist who has distinguished himself as top prize-winner in a number of important national and international music competitions sponsored by the National Society of Arts and Letters and the American Music Scholarship Association. He has the distinction of being the highest-ranking American in the 1986 Franz Liszt International Piano Competition, and has appeared as soloist and chamber musician in Alice Tully Hall, Weill Hall, Town Hall, Columbia University, and at many of the nation’s universities and colleges.
John Cheek is now a professor of music at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC. In addition to his teaching activities in the Music Department, he is Program Coordinator of the LR Friends of Music Concert Series. He has also previously served as an Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
