The final Newton NC Soldiers Reunion event is the annual 30-60-100 Mile Century Bike Ride which begins with a mass start at 8 a.m. Sunday, August 21st, 2015 at the Newton Rec Center.
All bicycle rides will be conducted at each rider’s own pace, with three ride lengths mapped throughout Catawba County. Each ride offers scenery and hills for cyclists to enjoy. The ride is open to anyone; however, those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian while participating in this event.
First aid, refreshments, t-shirts, and more will be provided for all participants. Ride applications are available at Newton City Hall, Newton Recreation Center, sponsoring locations,.
The pre-registration fee is $20 until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17th. The late registration fee is $25.
Reunion week starts August 14th, and events continue through Reunion Day on Thursday, August 18th. The showcase Soldiers Reunion Parade will take place on Thursday. About 10,000 people visit Downtown Newton throughout the week to take part in the festivities. American Legion Post 16 and the Newton Merchants Association sponsor and organize the week-long celebration.
