October 15th, 2016 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Newton Depot (1123 north Main Ave, Newton, NC 28658).
The festival will be held to celebrate an incredible year of progress for the Newton Depot Authority and Alexander Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS).
The Museum will be open from 9:00-4:00, with dedication ceremonies at 11:00 of the museum’s newest rolling stock arrivals: ET&WNC boxcar #434 and Hutton & Bourbonnais log car #1.
There will be light refreshments after the dedication and a hot dog fundraiser from 11:00-3:30.
In the Welcome Center there will be five different operating model layouts, many new museum pieces in the Newton Depot, live railroad bluegrass music from Hobo Bill Morris and Kristin, and an operating miniature steam train, the “Little Tweetsie Railroad” from Banner Elk, NC. The museum’s Alexander Railroad Pavilion will be open to the public for the first time, allowing visitors to see the museum’s locomotive and rolling stock on display. The members of Alexander Chapter completed restoration on most of the equipment in the pavilion and will show visitors current restoration progress on many pieces.
